It’s a Family Affair – Corporate Professional Turns Entrepreneur

The Marolf’s signed a lease for the 2,000 square foot restaurant on August 8, 2019. Local contractor Larry Francis was hired to facilitate an anticipated 90-day build out of what locals will remember as a tanning salon located in the popular Grand Mesa Shopping Center. Grand Junction’s new pizza destination will truly be a family affair. Patrons will get to know owners Bob and his wife Cecily as well as their son Zach as they all welcome guests and help out in the new family restaurant.

“We are excited to offer the Grand Valley community as well as those visiting Colorado’s Western Slope this new concept as we incorporate some of our local wines and local craft beers to our menu. While Grand Junction has some fine pizza restaurants in town, we offer a unique concept. Your pizza is baked in a 900 degree wood-fired oven in just 90 seconds; the time from order completion to food on the table will be 4 to 5 minutes” Bob reported. Options for gluten free and vegan pizza will be available. Visitors will find a variety of salads and sandwiches as well. Desserts featuring local seasonal offerings such as Palisade Peaches will top off the menu.

Smokin’ Oak owner Bob Marolf might be new to the restaurant business but is no stranger as a business professional following a 35 year career with Meadow Gold Dairy, part of Dean Foods. He brings a diverse management background but said “the real key to success will be his new business partner and wife of 34 years. She inspires the confidence to go forward with this new venture; I couldn’t do it without her.” He announced he will be employing 20 to 30 full and part time employees by the end of the year. “We love our community and look forward to offering residents and visitors a new dining experience. We are planning a second Grand Junction location in early 2020 and are actively searching for properties.”
